Present continuous tense ialah pola kalimat bahasa Inggris yang dipakai untuk menyatakan atau mengungkapkan acara yang kini ini sedang berlangsung (dalam proses). Fungsi Present Continuous Tense
Keterangan waktu (adverb of time) yang sering dipakai dalam contoh kalimat present continouos tense antara lain now, right now, at present, at the moment, today. Present continuous tense mempunyai beberapa fungsi, yaitu:
- Digunakan untuk mengungkapkan suatu kebiasaan yang kini masih berlangsung.
Contoh:
Mr. Leo is teaching Japanese this semester. - Digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu perbuatan yang sedang terjadi pada ketika sekarang, tetapi tidak berarti sedang terjadi pada ketika kita berbicara.
Contoh:
What are they doing right now?
They are reading a book right now. - Digunakan untuk memberitahukan dan menanyakan apa yang sedang berlangsung/terjadi/dilakukan oleh seseorang pada ketika kita berbicara kini ini.
